The City

Singapore is strategically located at the heart of South East Asia. This dynamic island nation combines the best of East and West and has become a major center for trade and commerce. The city has a well developed infrastructure with excellent communication networks and modern amenities. Singapore is well positioned along many sea and air routes.

The People

Singapore is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. The Chinese make up the majority of the population, followed by the Malays and Indians. Malay, Chinese, English, and Tamil are the official languages. English is widely used, and most Singaporeans are bilingual in Mandarin and English.

The History

Modern Singapore started as a British trading colony. Singapore formally became an independent state on 1965 and has evolved into an economic hub within Asia.

The Government

Singapore operates a parliamentary system of government. The People's Action Party (PAP) is the dominant political group since 1959. Political stability has allowed Singapore to focus on national and economic development.
